As part of a series of activities celebrating the 25th anniversary of Lac Hong University (1997–2022), and continuing the success of the previous extracurricular training program “ICD Tan Cang Song Than,” FAIE continued to create opportunities for students of the Economics (Foreign Trade) major to participate in a practical field visit on FCL cargo forwarding operations at Cat Lai Port – District 2, Ho Chi Minh City, on 11 May 2022.
The main participants in the training session were students of class 20NT111. In addition, several students from Cohort 19 who were interested also joined the program. The lecturers of FAIE accompanied the students throughout the trip.
After traveling for some time, at 8:30 a.m., the group arrived at Tan Cang – Cat Lai Port. There, the students were guided to the meeting room to prepare for learning about operational procedures.
The training session commenced shortly thereafter. To create a dynamic classroom atmosphere and encourage students to demonstrate their knowledge, Mr. Nguyen Duc Nham – Training Officer of Tan Cang Company – posed several questions regarding the students’ understanding of the company and operational procedures. The students were divided into three teams. Each team answered questions and received gifts.
Throughout the training session, students gained substantial useful knowledge. Questions such as “What are FCL and LCL cargo? What is the process of exporting and importing FCL cargo at ports in general and at Cat Lai Port in particular?” were thoroughly addressed.
During the session, in addition to acquiring knowledge about FCL order processing procedures, students also practiced proper cargo securing and lashing techniques. Moreover, they practiced opening and closing containers, were introduced to different types of seals, and learned how to seal containers professionally.
At the end of the training session, although it was already 12:00 noon, the students’ enthusiasm for learning remained undiminished. The group toured various areas of the Port and received further explanations from Mr. Nham regarding future career-related questions.
The training trip concluded after midday. Under the intense summer heat, the group returned to the University, closing a highly beneficial and engaging training session. Through this training, students undoubtedly gained solid and comprehensive knowledge. This will serve as valuable preparation for each student as they enter professional life in the field of foreign trade – import and export.
