At 7:30 a.m. on 14 May 2022, at Room D105, Campus 2, Lac Hong University, the Economic Law major organized a seminar entitled “Lawyering Skills in the Current Context.” The program welcomed the participation of Lawyer Le Quang Y – Head of the Dong Nai Bar Association – with the aim of equipping students with essential skills and sharing valuable professional experience in the legal profession. This is an annual activity of the Faculty to provide students with a more comprehensive overview of the legal profession, thereby enabling them to equip themselves with the necessary skills to develop in today’s legal practice environment.

Lawyering skills are essential conditions that help students make a positive impression on employers and are also important factors in pursuing a legal career. Recognizing this importance, the University organized this thematic session to help students gain closer access to practical skills and knowledge in the current legal field.

Lawyer Le Quang Y sharing insights on the legal profession during the program

Delving into lawyering skills, Lawyer Le Quang Y affirmed to students that foreign language proficiency is an indispensable factor for expanding employment opportunities. Currently, the demand for Law graduates by multinational companies in Vietnam is significant; however, students are required to be proficient in foreign languages. In addition to English, knowledge of Japanese, Korean, or Chinese is also a considerable advantage.

However, Lawyer Le Quang Y noted that law firms have begun to recognize that good academic performance alone cannot create a successful lawyer; therefore, they seek additional skills. He emphasized that Law students should, while still at university, enhance skills such as communication skills, interpersonal skills, writing skills, and especially public speaking skills. Furthermore, Lawyer Le Quang Y shared that the path to becoming a lawyer extends beyond three to four years of university study. After obtaining a bachelor’s degree, one must continue studying extensively, as becoming a lawyer is a long journey.
